RADE V2 Test Team

We are ready to start a test campaign for RADE V2 running on a beta version of freedv-gui 3.0. This will involve real-time, over-the-air, push-to-talk (PTT) testing. Testers will need to follow our test and issue submission guidelines.

If you would like to join the RADE V2 testing team, please reach out to us via the comments below.

Update 2 Oct 2026 – thank you, we have had a great response to this post and now have ample member on the test team, and do not require any more testers at this time.

    Hello,

I’m very happy to see this development and I would be glad to participate in the RADE V2 testing team.

For your information, I have also written a detailed guide for FreeDV RADE in my native language, Greek, and I actively support and promote the project within the amateur radio community in Greece:

    https://rfnews.gr/freedv-rade-v1-windows/

In addition, I have designed and implemented a number of improvements to the RADE user interface. I would be very happy to share these ideas and my implementation with you, so we can explore whether some of them could be incorporated into a future official release or, alternatively, maintained as an optional add-on/module alongside the main project.

I would be very pleased to contribute to the over-the-air testing, provide feedback during the RADE V2 test campaign, and share my UI work with the development team.

    Best regards,
    Alexandros

Hi, I’m interested in participating in the RADE V2 beta test campaign. I run freedv-gui and have the capability for live over-the-air PTT testing. Ready to follow the testing guidelines and report any issues.”

Thanks Jeffrey, Alexandros, Babis, Taku – I have sent you all invites to join the RADE test group.

David, thank you for the invitation. But It seems that a Google email address is preferable for joining the Google Group. I would appreciate it if you could send the invitation to the RADE Autoencoder group again using this Google email address. regards Taku

    Hi everyone,

Greetings from Japan! I am writing to express my heartfelt thanks for the realization of the 1 kHz RADE mode, and to request joining this Google Group as a monitor/tester.

I still vividly remember when FreeDV RADE V1 was first introduced—I was absolutely blown away and thrilled by its incredible audio quality.

Back then, due to heavy congestion on the 7 MHz band in Japan, three of us local hams discussed how wonderful it would be to have a FreeDV RADE mode operating within a bandwidth of around 1 kHz.

Furthermore, considering the regulatory constraints on the 10 MHz band in Japan (requiring signals to remain within 2 kHz), we strongly hoped for a mode under 1 kHz. With the previous RADE version (1.5 kHz bandwidth), spurious emissions/spectral splatters were a concern, requiring us to apply transmitter filtering to keep the signal constrained. Therefore, we submitted a request to the development team asking for a native mode that stays within 1 kHz without needing external filtering.

I am deeply moved and overjoyed to see that this request has come to fruition today with the completion of the 1 kHz RADE mode.

I would love to participate as a monitor/tester and contribute to the project by providing operational reports and feedback from Japan. I would greatly appreciate it if you could approve my join request for this group.

Thank you so much for your amazing dedication and hard work!

I am very excited to join the team and try to feed back as much I can. Yesterday I installed RADE V2 software and this morning I could make QSO with 2 Japanese friends. The audio quality was amazing though the occupied band-width was clearly less than 1KHz monitored by TS-890.

    Thank you and best regards
    Yuichi

Hello. Please add me to the test team. I am a FlexRadio Alpha tester as well as a beta tester and contributor for RimuSDR (native Linux Flex client).
I will be able to test across all three major computing platforms, Windows, MacOS and Linux.

    Good afternoon.
I would be interested in Beta testing for this. I am currently Beta testing a couple of other projects. I do enjoy trying and experimenting with new projects.

I am new to FreeDV. I did a quick test of frequency stability for decoding. I found that if I tune off the center frequency, such as 14.236, by more than 60 Hz on my FT991A that the receive decoding fails and audio is lost. Have you thought about including a tone or other set signal that would allow FreeDV to TRACK the transmitted frequency, Machine Leaning?

RADE V1 acquisition spec is +/-50 Hz (see V1 intro doc PDF). Once acquired, RADE V1 and V2 already track slowly changing frequency offsets (e.g. drift).

I would like to help out with RADE V2 testing. I have been contributing to AetherSDR (which supports RADE V1), so would be excited to see RADE V2 supported in the future. Thank you for the open invitation to participate.

Also interested in testing, I have some background in C/C++ programming and a general interest in COFDM but couldn’t find which branch on Git this is being developed under? QRP/5W station in New Zealand here.

Thanks for your work, it’s an excellent modem!

We are a group of SDR enthusiasts, deeply involved in the HPSDR world since nearly 20 years. After freeDV’s revival by RADE we tested V1 under different conditions (HF, VHF and microwave). The results were fine as expected and even via QO-100 satellite RADE V1 perfoms powerfully.
Christo’s HPSDR SW ,Thetis-RADE, allowed us the same tests using V2 on the HF bands. We would like to extend the ‘play ground’ up to microwave too. We appreciate access to a freeDV RADE V2 sw-module running together with the SDRC.

    Hi Rade V2 test team.

I’d be very keen to be a beta tester of the Rade V2.

I travel to the Pacific a lot for work, and am keen to activate and test the new Rade from some of those islands if I get a chance

I am happy to try out the software, I live at Mallala and am active on most HF bands.

I have watched from a distance, however, looking forward to using FreeDV,

I would be very interested in joining in, a few of us have been trialing v2 already on 160m with good results and I have been developing an automated Diversity combiner for piHPDSR, For V1 I track the pilot tones but V2 will require a different approach
